We finally got out into the bus and began work again this past week. Yay! I have been measuring and sorting through cabinet doors, deciding where they will be going, and locating handles for these doors.
It has been intimidating for both Mr. C and I, as neither of us has ever built a cabinet before. In fact, we haven’t built much. I don’t have the skills and Mr. C lacks the desire to build. Between the two of us, we make a sorry pair.
But, I have been reminding Mr. C that in order for us to actually get the conversion done, we have to do work on it. And, over the past few weeks, I have spent A LOT of time watching videos online and reading articles on how to build and install cabinets. I even borrowed a couple of AWESOME books from Mr. C’s dad, which have been quite helpful.
This is the beginning of our first cabinet ever. I know it looks flimsy….it still is. We cut the bottom and were about to cut the frame for the other side, but it got dark and began raining, so we decided to finish it up this week. We are going to put L brackets on the side pieces, which will be attached to the frame and the ceiling. The plan is to make it sturdy enough that if one of the younger kids decides to try and hang off of it, it won’t budge (not that any of our kids would ever try to do that, of course). We are using some oak 1×2’s which I found for free online last fall. They are perfect for framing cabinets. I am so thankful for being able to have them. What a blessing! What a great week it is going to be! 🙂
